Damn, it’s been about 12 years since I’ve been DJing. New music has come out, styles have switched and merged and are always evolving.
I’ve been going under the name “Ronnie Dubbz” for the longest time now, and I feel that it is a name synonymous with top40, hiphop, rock, 80s, 90s dance, mashups, disco, house… pretty much everything.
As much as I love all music, I feel the need to narrow my range and focus on my productions and my sound. That is why I came up with “ILL SMITH : The Fresh Prince of Kick Snare”
I’m very much into the electronic sound of the UK and me being from Philly, might as well use a name that can keep the philly roots but also translate into the style that im currently working on.
Follow me either at @RonnieDubbz or @ILLSmithMusic on Twitter to stay up-to-date on my new tunes and any upcoming projects I have in the future.
Cheers!
Ronnie Dubbz aka “ILL Smith” aka “The Fresh Prince of Kick Snare”
Here’s something to get u started with some leads. U can mess around with the waves & settings to get some cool sounds. Also, this tutorial got me doing some research on the VST plugin Massive by Native Instruments.
Hey guys and girls, I just wanna take this brief X amount of characters to tell you about a new party in Old City on Thursday nights. Khyber has reopened, and is killing it on the food (try the pulled pork sandwhich, shit is BANGIN) and beer end of the spectrum. Did you’s know that their upstairs is open?? Yup, thats where all the musical and artistry side of it is going down.
I have a weekly gig there Thursday Nights that is called “Unpopped.” It’s taking the poppy side of philadelphia and wrapping it up in future club sounds, which give a refreshing taste of something that sounds familiar but aint. Believe me, it’s all music that the girlies should have no problem dancing to, but yet have the sounds that any music cconnoisseur can appreciate.
Check us out 9pm-2am every Thursday night, upstairs at the Khyber.
***ALSO*** Khyber was always known as a staple for music in philly and are always looking for new parties, monthlys or weeklys. I encourage you party throwers and DJs to hit up my boy Richie, who handles the Khyber’s bookings, and tell him that I sent you!
Just got hit up by my boy Manny Romano, whom i met at Positano Coast one night while I was spinning. Manny asked me to come and do a set with him at this new weekly party he and Adrian Hardy are throwing in Rittenhouse at Rogues Gallery on Wednesday nights. I’ll be filling in for his partner Adrian Hardy, whose in RI. The night will push funky, soulful and latinee electronic tunes, something astray from the normal commercial sounds of Philadelphia. I’m excited. Of course I’m gonna have fun with this.
Holler at me and I’ll throw you on the guest list, which gets you in for free. I don’t believe theres a limit on it, so holler away. If not, im sure the cover isnt that bad. You’ll be getting a decent drink special all night. Hope to see you out there!
There is this one track that has been turning heads in clubs and festivals and it’s absolutely amazing. All the UK A-List party dj’s have been dropping it in ther hard sets on underground stations such as Rinse.fm , and I just had to be a part of it. (Ps. I don’t see it as riding on the original producer’s curtails, nor swimming in his wake, but more like wakeboarding behind a very sporty boat) Check out it’s preview:
I gotta give props to Dismantle, who actually assembled this tune across the pond. This “Computation” track is going to bring electro back, this time in Dub style. Just picture a dubstep track where PacMan ate all the wobbles. I can’t think of many ways to drop this track in Philly, so I went right ahead and created a bootleg remix moombahthon style. Check out the preview and the full track will become available to listen after Dismantle and his crew releases their own and available for download when they say (unless they want to release it with the original).
Keep a look out for Dismantle and his GangoonDubz posse making moves this summer. They offer some free music on their soundcloud and their bangers will be released on N-type’s record label Wheel & Deal. I expect “Computation” and maybe some other tunes topping out on Beatport, and they’ll be for sale there and most likely for sale in iTunes and Amazon music as well. Big Up!
